The Power of a Unified Effort

Genesis 11:5 "But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them."

This, of course, is the story of the Tower of Babel where Nimrod and his people chose to build a tower to heaven.

Genesis 11: "3They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”

But, God saw that the motivation of their heart was to exalt themselves above God so he confused the language of the whole world and scattered them over the face of the earth.

Genesis 11:8 "So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9That is why it was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth."

But what if we could extract a truth from this story and apply this truth to our life. What if we apply this truth to our families, to our church and to our communities. What if we could all get on the same page, not to exalt ourselves above God, but to exalt God above ourselves, to further his Kingdom in our lives, our homes, our churches and our communities?"

If the church could be unified in its efforts and its speech... "then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them."

Why do you think Satan works so hard to destroy the unity between husbands and wifes and the unity between parents against children? Why do you think that he works so hard to destroy the unity in our churches and get one believer pitted against another? He does so because he knows that when we do get unified and we are all on the same page, moving in the same direction, speaking the same things, to accomplish the same goals and dreams then nothing will be impossible for us.

Let's choose to lay aside our petty differences and our own personal agendas this year and unify our efforts. Let's choose to speak the same language, the language of love, acceptance, and faith. Because when we choose to build our own towers then confusion is the ultimate outcome. But when we choose to build His Kingdom, then impossible situations become possible.
